INTRODUCTION
Our 8,000 acre South Dakota farm is located in one of only two places in the world where it is possible to shoot both Greater Prairie Chickens and Sharptail Grouse. The other area is the Sandhills of Nebraska. Our terrain is more hunter and dog friendly than the Sandhills. (No prickly pear and our hills aren't as high.) The unique habitat on our farm allows both of these native species of the prairie to cohabit. We have strong populations of these birds on our farm and the ratio of Sharptails to Chickens usually runs about 60/40.

THE HUNT
From September 18th to October 15th we are offering special hunts for these indigenous birds of the prairie. Our hunts are privately guided over English Setters and other pointing dogs for groups of 2-10 hunters. My Setters are from bloodlines imported from Scotland, whose ancestors are used on the British Grouse Moors. Because Prairie Grouse are notorious for moving around, hunters should be physically fit and prepared to do some serious walking. In order to effectively hunt these birds it is necessary to walk 5-8 miles a day, however, the terrain allows for relatively easy walking on short grass prairie. Prairie Grouse hunting is challenging and fun.

These hunts occur during the early Prairie Grouse season, (September 18th - October 15th). The September - October time frame is the best time to hunt these birds because they are more likely to hold for pointing dogs. Later in the season they tend to flush wild and out of gun range. Although our goal is to produce the classic point and covey rise, many times these birds will also flush wild. Prairie Grouse are unpredictable and provide excellent sport. We have a strong population of these wild indigenous birds of the prairie and in an average year we would expect to see 50-80 birds a day. Current limits are 3 Sharptail/Prairie Chicken combination per person per day. A license costs $100 and is good for 2 five day periods, specified at the time of purchase.

We have access to over 8,000 acres of private grasslands (CRP), food plots, creek bottoms and draws. We strongly emphasize good sportsmanship, safety and respect for the South Dakota game laws. Group size is a minimum of two and a maximum of 10.

HUNTING RATES -2004

Our 2004 rates are $300 per person per day, plus 5% tax. Group size is 2 - 10. This is a fully guided Prairie Grouse hunt and provide lunch. Hunters are on their own for lodging, other meals and bird cleaning. Lodging in the Lucky dog Lodge located on the farm is available in our well equipped lodge for $50 per person per night. The lodge is fully equipped, has 4 bedrooms and is located on the farm. We can assist you in finding other local lodging and there is a local bird cleaner in town for those hunters that don't want to clean their own birds. We also have a bird cleaning and storage facility on site. At the time of booking, we will provide you with a detailed information packet..

A 50% nonrefundable deposit plus tax is required to book a hunt.
